In the early 1900’s little was known about mental illness and the effects it had on people suffering from it. At the time, people with mental illness were discarded by society and labeled as “Mentally Insane” and locked away in the basement of prisons and left to die until, in 1933 a Doctor named Fredrick Hansel Erickson (Pictured) made public his “New Era” treatments for the so called “criminally insane”
In 1933 Dr Erickson founded New Hope Asylum and at the time, to the public, it was touted as “A New Eras Blessing for the deranged” this so called Blessed institution housed and treated more than 1300 patients suffering from mental illness, with a large percentage of these patients being under the age of 15. In reality, most of these patients were murdered in cold blood receiving no care, being left alone for weeks and months sitting in their own fesses on cold institution floors with their cries and wailing's of agony from dementia ignored.
In the beginning, Dr Erickson believed his “New Era” procedure which he dubbed, “Cranial Evacuation” would cure anyone suffering from mental illness but in reality, Dr Erickson’s procedures were nothing more than the sadistic torturing known today as lobotomy. His technique was said to alleviate madness and suffering in people thought to be incurably deranged, violent, and psychotic. With the assistance of his wife Wilma, (Pictured) Dr Erickson preformed his technique slicing tiny slivers through the frontal lobes of the brain, which he reached through holes bored in the top of the skull with an ordinary hand powered drill.
After a year of this tortuous treatment and hoping to make his procedure “leaner”, Dr Erickson secretly began to utilize what he called “Brain Butter Realignment.” Without the approval of any medical organization, and behind the closed doors of his asylum, Dr Erickson’s began his “leaner” treatment consisting of driving a sharp thin pointed object into the brain by hammering it through the bony case of the eye just above the eyeball, just under the eyelid and vigorously swiping the pointed object back and forth agents the frontal brain lobes.
Dr Erickson’s instrument of choice for this new leaner procedure? An ice pick he grabbed from his homes kitchen draw. This procedure earned Erickson the name “Dr Ice Pick” by his equally twisted sadistic medical partner and wife Wilma Erickson. In addition, Dr Ice Pick believed that any form of anesthetic during the procedure would hinder its results thus, the Dr and his wife opted to immobilize their patients with a home brewed electroshock therapy. As the Doctors wife tied patients to a chair, the Dr. would strip the wires of a lamp from their bedroom, and touch the current caring wires to the patient’s bare skin, often in the genital region until the patient was rendered unconscious. As a result of this “lean” procedure, over 666 patient deaths were discovered when the New Hope Asylum was closed in 1934.

In 1935, Dr Ice Pick, and his wife Wilma were tried in criminal court for the sadistic manner of treatment they provided that lead to the deaths of his patients but, justice for the victims was nowhere to be found.
Presiding judge Dillard Murray (Pictured) who years later admitted to being a 3rd cousin of Dr Erickson, ruled that the Dr and his wife were treating patients with “The best known procedures known at this time to treat the criminally insane” adding that Dr Ice Pick and his wife “cannot be held legally responsible for the deaths of their patients.”
Being acquitted of all charges, Dr Ice Pick was free to reopened New Hope Asylum where he continued his practice for another 4 years until in 1941, the asylum mysteriously burnt to the ground killing Dr. Ice Pick, his wife, and the remaining 13 patients trapped inside.
As time passed, and wishing to eradicate any memory of these horrors, town administrators looked to bury the disgusting history and horrific events of Dr Ice Pick even going so far as to change the towns name to Greece but the memory’s would soon return.
In the mid 1950’s, the property that once was home to Dr Ice Picks New Hope Asylum was purchased by Dr Denny Level a WWII veteran and psychiatric physician (Pictured) who after the war was looking for a way to earn a living for his wife and children.
In 1955, Looking to capitalize on the horrific history of New Hope Asylum, Dr. Level opened Entrails Rest Home and Asylum as a place where people suffering from all sorts of psychiatric ailments could check in for a stay to be treated.
For 7 years Level operated his rest home until in 1962 Level, his wife and 4 children were found strapped to hospital beds in the basement of the rest home with Ice Picks stuck in their eyes. The crime was never solved.
In passing years, the property was sold 3 more times. The first two owners changed the name of the property hoping to get away from its evil history, but to no avail, as the first two owners and their families suffered the same fate as Dr Level being murdered with Ice Picks stuck in their Eyes. Again the murders went unsolved.
In 1969, the 3rd proprietor and current owner Gypsy Bloodrun,
(Pictured) change the name back to Entrails Rest Home and Asylum but now, the property operates as a highway motel Inn.
It seems, at least for now, the horrors of the past have finally been forgotten as today, the Inn runs at full capacity most of the year.
Ms. Bloodrun’s thriving business is believed to be due to the numerous reports of guests seeing ghosts and hearing strange noises and screaming during their stays. Through the years, numerous rumors of the evil Dr Ice Pick haunting the property and continuing to carry out his sadistic practices on guests who stay at the Inn have been reported.
